Balfour Beatty JV secures £370m residential contract in Hong Kong

UK-based Balfour Beatty's joint venture (JV) Gammon Construction (Gammon) has secured an HK$4bn (£370m) residential contract from Hong Kong financial real estate firm Wheelock and Company.

Under the deal, Gammon will be responsible for developing a large-scale residential infrastructure called ‘Lohas Park Package 9’.

Located at Tseung Kwan O bay in the Sai Kung District, New Territories, Hong Kong, Lohas Park Package 9 will feature three residential towers on a five-level podium. The towers are between 54 and 56 storeys high.

Gammon chief executive Thomas Ho said: “This is the fourth project Gammon will be delivering for Wheelock and Company Limited in the Tseung Kwan O bay area.

Gammon will be using building information modelling (BIM) and 3D-scanning technologies to ensure a safe and efficient project delivery.

The company is also planning to incorporate the design concept for manufacturing and assembly (DfMA) during the construction phase in order to enhance productivity and safety performance.

The project also aims to achieve ’HK Beam Plus Standards’, which requires a reduced environmental impact of the development and improved environmental quality and end-user satisfaction.

Construction works at the site will begin later this year and the development is scheduled for completion in 2021.

To complete the development project, Gammon is planning to hire 1,500 workers during the peak construction period.
