Harworth Group has secured planning approval for logistics and manufacturing space development at its site in Wingates, Bolton, UK.

Expected to create up to 1,500 jobs, the proposed site will deliver up to 1.1ft² commercial space adjacent to Junction 6 of the M61 and is near Harworth’s existing Logistics North site.

It will also deliver significant upgrades to highway, drainage and utility infrastructure, including a new access road.

The project also includes boundary landscaping and an ecological enhancement area. It forms part of Harworth’s commitment to promoting green spaces.

Harworth Group CEO Lynda Shillaw said: “Securing planning for our Wingates development marks a significant milestone for us and will have a substantial positive effect on the local economy in terms of construction, permanent jobs and investment.

“It will allow Bolton businesses to expand while at the same time improving highways infrastructure and protecting local biodiversity and green spaces.”

Harworth said that the Wingates site would benefit from direct access to the motorway network. It is also ideally situated to serve the northwest quadrant of Greater Manchester.

The company plans to begin enabling works at the site early next year. The first phase of commercial development is scheduled to start in the same year.

Harworth Group North West regional director Steven Knowles said: “Our placemaking will create an attractive environment where businesses want to locate and employees want to work.”

The Wingates development forms part of Harworth’s 26.1-million-square-foot industrial and logistics pipeline. The firm has already secured consent for nine million square feet of this planned development.
