Court Collaboration, a specialist residential developer, has secured reserved matters approval from Birmingham City Council to deliver 392 apartments as part of the wider New Garden Square regeneration on the Calthorpe Estate.

Valued at £93m, this private rental scheme will be Court Collaboration’s third build-to-rent project in the region.

It will be a core part of the wider New Garden Square masterplan, which is being developed by Calthorpe Estates and U+I.

Once developed, this scheme is claimed to transform the outdated commercial estate into a vibrant 10.7-acre mixed-use destination.

Court Collaboration will team up with Calthorpe Estates to deliver a collection of spacious one, two and three-bedroom properties to New Garden Square.

The scheme will also feature private car parking spaces.

Once complete, the project will offer up to 500,000ft² of Grade A office accommodation, residential properties, bars, restaurants and convenience stores.

Set around a public realm garden square, which is formed from an eclectic series of gardens and mature trees, the project will retain the current Grade II listed buildings fronting Hagley Road.

The project will also benefit from the extension of the metro up Hagley Road from Birmingham’s city centre, with an Edgbaston Village terminus stop opposite it.

Construction of the apartments is scheduled to begin this spring and completion is expected by Q2 2022.

Court Collaboration managing director Alex Neale said: “New Garden Square will be a fantastic addition to the city and will bring this currently outdated site firmly into the 21st century.

“We are committed to delivering developments which support local communities and economies, and New Garden Square will be no exception. The properties will be built using a wide range of modern and sustainable building methods, to offer a desirable rental investment opportunity in the city.

“We are thrilled to have now received planning permission from Birmingham City Council and look forward to starting works onsite shortly.”
