US-based company Daktronics has designed, manufactured and installed new LED video displays, ribbon boards and custom audio systems for the University of South Alabama’s Hancock Whitney Football Stadium in Mobile.

The new main end zone display will provide nearly 3,500ft² of viewing space at the new, on-campus venue for football, which will be open in September 2020.

University of South Alabama director of athletics Joel Erdmann said: “We are truly excited about our new on-campus stadium of which a significant aspect will be the video and audio components provided by Daktronics.

“Throughout the stadium design, we kept the customer experience at the forefront of our thoughts and planning. How better to enhance that experience than to have this state-of-the-art system? We deeply appreciate Daktronics technical guidance and can’t wait to turn it on and crank up the energy.”

The 37ft-high, 100ft-wide main end zone display will feature a 15HD pixel layout to ensure image clarity and contrast with wide angle visibility throughout the stadium.

A custom outdoor sound system above the video screen and camera platform will provide clear and intelligible speech and a booming audio experience.

Featuring environmental protection, the displays are also capable of variable content zoning. Each display will be able to show one large image or be divided into multiple zones to show a combination of live videos, instant replays, statistics and game information, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages.

Daktronics sales representative Glen Marts said: “This new audiovisual system will generate additional excitement for Jaguar Football once their new home is completed on campus.

“We’re thrilled to be working with a great team of individuals to bring this project to fruition. This will have a tremendous impact on the overall fan experience, as well as their sponsor recognition for years to come.”

The new stadium will also feature two ribbon boards, one along the seating fascia on each side of the field. Each ribbon board will measure 3.5ft-high and 180ft-long and feature 15HD pixel layouts.

In addition to providing supplemental content to the main displays, the ribbon board will provide the opportunity to highlight sponsors throughout the events.

“This will have a tremendous impact on the overall fan experience, as well as their sponsor recognition for years to come.”

Opposite the main video board, a 6ft-tall, 60ft-wide fixed-digit scoreboard will be established on top of the football operations building. The face of the building will also feature game clock delays.

Daktronics will include a custom control system to facilitate game-day productions for operators of the displays.

South Alabama will also receive a digital content package to be produced and delivered by Daktronics Creative Services for game day and other special events.
