DTE Energy has signed an agreement with real estate developer The Roxbury Group, to develop the former industrial site of the Michigan Consolidated Gas Company in Ann Arbor, Michigan, US, into a mixed-use project and public space.

Spanning across 11 acres, the project will be located at Broadway Street at Huron River and is expected to attract investments worth up to $75m or more.

The Broadway Park development will feature an 8,000ft² event pavilion, up to 100 residential condominiums, a boutique select hotel, and up to 20,000ft² of retail space, including an area for a restaurant facing the river.

“Broadway Park is designed to be an iconic development and public space that further solidifies Ann Arbor’s reputation as one of the state’s premier communities.”

DTE Energy chairman and CEO Gerry Anderson said: “Our development agreement with Roxbury Group is the result of DTE Energy’s commitment to developing this site in a way that highlights the natural beauty of the riverfront while preserving much of the land for the public’s enjoyment.

“Broadway Park is designed to be an iconic development and public space that further solidifies Ann Arbor’s reputation as one of the state’s premier communities.”

More than 80% of the site, or the equivalent of nearly nine acres, will be open space and green infrastructure with approximately 1,200ft of restored Huron River shoreline.

DTE and Roxbury have been collaborating on the design, along with local and national professionals, including those from Smith Group/JJR of Ann Arbor, Hamilton Anderson Associates Architects, and SME Consultants of Plymouth.

Both partners have also contracted Project for Public Spaces (PPS) to help develop the programming and design of the public space in Broadway Park.

PPS will carry out a series of stakeholder outreach sessions to collect community input during the design and development process for the public space.

After this public engagement, Roxbury Group will work to secure necessary entitlements and permits for the project by the end of this year. Construction will start immediately thereafter.
