The Dubai Future Foundation in the UAE has announced the opening of the seven-storey ‘Museum of the Future’ designed by architect Killa Design.

Engineered by Buro Happold engineering consultancy, the Museum of the Future is 77m-tall and circular in shape.

Made of stainless steel, the museum’s facade comprises 1,024 pieces manufactured by a robot-assisted process. It covers a total of 17,600m² surface area.

Each panel of the façade consists of four layers and required a 16-step process to produce. All panels were installed individually.

Illuminated by 14,000m of light lines, the facade is decorated with quotes from UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum poetry in Arabic calligraphy.

Advanced glass manufactured with new technologies was used for the engraved writing on the steel facade.

Said to be the most streamlined building globally, it features no sharp corners on its external structure and was built using the ‘parametric design’ model.

The three-dimensional technology used for the building is based on the latest technical design.

Dubai Future Foundation Board of Trustees chairman Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said: “The Museum of the Future will be an intellectual laboratory for cities of the future and governments of the future…it will play a key role in strengthening Dubai’s future position. The Museum will provide a clear roadmap for Dubai’s vital sectors.”

The first bridge, through which the museum is accessed, extends to the buildings of Jumeirah Emirates Towers and the other bridge connects it to the Emirates Towers metro station.

Furthermore, the 4,000MW of electricity used to power the building is produced through solar energy with the help of solar panels connected to the museum.

Covering an area of 30,000m², the pillarless building consists of the hill or plateau, the external design and the exhibitions.

Additionally, it employs the latest technologies in virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence (AI) and human-machine interaction and big data analysis.

A multi-use hall at the Museum of the Future has the capacity to accommodate more than 1,000 people.
