Homes England has confirmed Barratt and David Wilson Homes North West as the preferred developer for a housing project in Macclesfield, Cheshire, UK.

The preferred developer will deliver 300 new homes at the former King’s School campus at Fence Avenue.

The scheme received planning approval this week and will provide a wide range of open market and affordable homes.

In August 2018, Homes England acquired the campus from King’s School. The site was then leased back to the school for two years to provide them with time to build a new campus without interrupting education.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes North West will deliver some of the homes in collaboration with Torus, a Homes England’s housing association strategic partner.

Torus will also rebuild a school building at the site called Fence House into apartments for market sale.

The new school campus, currently under construction, is scheduled to open for the 2020/21 academic year.

Once the new school campus is operational, Barratt and David Wilson Homes will commence the housing project.

Homes England chief land and development officer Stephen Kinsella said: “This is a significant step forward for the development of Fence Avenue, where our innovative approach has demonstrated our ability to intervene in the market and unlock land for new homes, while facilitating the school’s ambitions for its new campus.

“We’re pleased to appoint Barratt and David Wilson Homes as the developer, who along with Torus will provide a range of homes for the people of Macclesfield, with a significantly higher proportion of affordable housing that originally anticipated.”
