Jewish National Fund-USA (JNF-USA) has launched a competition to design its World Zionist Village in Be’er Sheva, Israel.

The 20-acre World Zionist Village is a $350m investment and part of JNF’s strategic vision to connect the next generation to Israel’s land and people.

It will include a southern campus for the Alexander Muss High School in Israel (AMHSI), an Innovation Centre for post-graduate internships and the first Zionist Adult Education Center.

JNF-USA president Dr Sol Lizerbram added: “The Village will be a conduit between the tech elements developed in Israel and Be’er Sheva and students studying at the Village. This is the intersection of education, Zionism, and technology.”

Concepts for a structure incorporating the landscape of Be’er Sheva’s and its status as capital of the Negev are also invited as part of the competition, which runs from 4 February to 15 April.

Architects, students, designers, ‘big thinkers’, and landscape architects can submit their entries.

JNF-USA Board chairperson and Be’er Sheva Construction and Building and Subcommittee co-chair Jeffrey Levin said: “Our goal is to create interest in and brand what we are creating in Be’er Sheva. London has Big Ben and Hollywood its famed sign. Will a monument make Be’er Sheva and the Village internationally recognisable icons?

“Will the design take advantage of the sun and be all solar? Will rooftop gardens adorn every structure? This international competition will draw ideas for a campus of the future and bestow Be’er Sheva the attention it deserves.”

The competition will be judged by a panel of architects and public figures and the finalists will be announced on 13 May, with the final winner set to be revealed on 18 June.

JNF-USA said the entrants can win up to $8,600.
