Investment management firm Barings and LBS Properties have appointed Kier to design and construct their $81.8m (£69m) commercial development at 135 Park Street, in London.

The new 12-storey sustainable mixed-use building in Southwark extends the regeneration of Bankside eastwards and will be located close to Shakespeare’s Globe theatre and the Tate Modern.

The 148,486ft² building will have 12,900ft² of affordable workspace, 131,900ft² of office space, and 1,500ft² of retail space.

It will have large windows, external spaces, and green landscaping on the roof, along with panoramic views of the city.

The company stated that 135 Park Street has been designed to achieve specific UK Green Building Council (GBC) upfront carbon targets.

It will use some sustainable elements such as low carbon concrete, a largely prefabricated façade, and efficient mechanical and engineering (M&E) services with SMART technologies to reduce carbon concrete during the construction and throughout the life cycle of the building.

The company noted that the new development will be designed to achieve BREEAM ‘outstanding’ rating, as well as a 5-star National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) rating.

In April this year, Kier completed the construction of St Sidwell’s Point, a Passivhaus leisure centre in the UK.
