The Pennsylvania State University in the US has selected Kimmel, Bogrette Architecture + Site to renovate the Multipurpose Building at Penn State DuBois.

The selection follows approval from the Penn State Board of Trustees and is also based on previous renovation work carried out by the architectural firm.

Kimmel, Bogrette Architecture + Site had previously designed the renovation of the Health Sciences and Wellness Center at Montgomery County Community College, the Daskalakis Athletic Center at Drexel University, and the La Salle University Business School both in Philadelphia.

Penn State Dubois chancellor M Scott McBride said: “We’re excited about the naming of an architect, as this project has been long desired.

“We are obviously very pleased about this first step in a process to achieve a top-notch facility in which students can practice, play and gather.”

The Multipurpose Building was built in 1967. The planned improvements to the building include the addition of a new National Collegiate Athletics Association-regulation gymnasium. The existing gym will be used as practice space and for other events.

The updated building will be equipped with a heating and air-conditioning system and a new fitness centre for athletes, students, faculty and staff, as well as feature offices for athletics staff and additional practice space.

Penn State DuBois campus athletic director Ken Nellis said: “A newly renovated facility will be a focal point for the campus to provide students and student-athletes the opportunity to gather, exercise, practice and host larger campus-wide events.

“We believe renovations will be a recruitment and retention piece for the campus as we continue to strive to provide an excellent collegiate experience for all students who call Penn State DuBois home.”
