Construction company NCC has received  a contract to build new two-storey school in City of Kaarina, outside Turku, Finland.

The turnkey contract is valued at around SEK380m ($37.8m). According to the deal, NCC will construct a school building covering about 12,000m² that can accommodate up to 1,000 students.

The new building is planned to be built adjacent to the Valkeavuori sports hall, which was built by NCC earlier this year.

As part of the project, NCC will demolish some of the older school buildings.

The City of Kaarina technical services director Jyrki Haapasaari said: “This campus project is important for several reasons. For the city, it is large in scope and therefore has a significant impact on the service we can offer, the city’s property portfolio and our finances.

NCC plans to start construction on the project at the end of this year and complete it in 2025.

The firm said in a statement: “The transaction is a turnkey contract, with an order value amounting to approximately SEK 380 million, and will be registered among orders in the third quarter of 2022 in the NCC Building Nordics business area.”

Last month, the City of Helsinki in Finland selected NCC to build a school and kindergarten in Länsi-Pakila, in the northern part of Helsinki.

Construction on the project is scheduled to start during the autumn and will be completed in 2023.
