Bawabat Al-Shamal Real Estate Company (BASREC) has begun construction on the $1.64bn Doha Festival City retail and entertainment project.

The mixed use development located at Al Shamal Road in downtown Doha is being carried out as a joint venture between Al-Futtaim Group, Qatar Islamic Bank and other investors.

The project will spread across a 433,847m² site with a leasable area of 260,000m².

Doha Festival City will offer entertainment, hospitality, automotive showrooms and more than 400 shopping and dining outlets under one roof.

The project has been designed by DP Architects. The Arab Engineering Bureau will be project architect and Mace International will be project manager.

The interior design of the retail development plan has been inspired by nature and the elements of wind, water, wood and earth.
