Berklee College of Music has broken ground on a $100m dorm and performance venue in Boston, Massachusetts, US.

Designed by William Rawn Associates, the new 155,000ft2 building will include practice and ensemble rooms, a fitness centre, student lounges, a two-storey dining hall and a 19,000ft2 music technology centre with soundproofed recording studios in the basement.

The 16-storey new building will have floor-to-ceiling windows on the bottom floors and accommodate new dorm rooms with approximately 370 dormitory beds, in addition to a two-storey dining hall and student performance venue with seating for 400 people.

Lee Kennedy will undertake the construction of the project, which is scheduled to be completed by the autumn of 2013.
