Canada-based Cadillac Fairview has announced plans to build a tower on the parking lot between Waterfront Station and The Landing.

Designed by B+H Architects and international firm Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill, the 26-storey glass Waterfront Tower is planned to be built between two Vancouver heritage buildings on the edge of Gastown.

Cadillac Fairview proposal may not go through a public hearing, as the land is already said to be zoned for an office building.

The proposal for the 127m tower must gain consent from the development permit board at a meeting in March.

"The tower is already facing some scrutiny and the final design is expected to be set further back from the train station."

Featuring 22 office floors and 33,000m² of rentable office space, the tower will also offer a public square on three sides and allow for a future Cordova Street corridor, The Province reported.

In July last year, Vancouver approved a 31-storey office building across the street from the Cadillac Fairview tower, citing a demand for office space and the positive proximity to the Canada Line, Expo Lines and the SeaBus.
