Dr Chau Chak WIng Building

University of Technology Sydney (UTS) has opened the Dr Chau Chak Wing Building, the newest architectural landmark.

Architect Frank Gehry has designed the building, which is said to be another milestone of UTS’s $1.2bn City Campus master plan.

UTS vice-chancellor professor Attila Brungs said: "Frank Gehry has created unique spaces to inspire a life-long love of learning, enable completely new educational experiences and enrich UTS’s approach to research."

The new building will be joined by a new graduate health and science building, which is set to open in March 2015.

Dr Chau Chak Wing Building has been designed starting with the collaborative learning and work spaces, featuring an east-facing, sandstone coloured, undulating brick facade.

The building’s large, glass panels make up the west-facing facade and reference the city surroundings.

UTS partnered with design architect Gehry Partners, executive architect Daryl Jackson Robin Dyke and contractor Lend Lease to create the project.

UTS Dean of Business professor Roy Green said: "We are located at the heart of Sydney’s growing ‘digital creative hub’ and in a hot spot of new business incubation and innovation."

Dr Chau Chak Wing Building is bound by Ultimo Road, Mary Ann Street and Omnibus Lane, and will serve as a key destination on the redeveloped goods line that extends from Darling Harbour to the Central Station.
