Dudley College in Dudley, West Midlands, UK, has selected ISG to construct Dudley Sixth, a new-build sixth form facility.
The new three-storey building will house classroom and laboratory facilities as well as have access to a gym, sports facilities, a theatre and other facilities housed within the Dudley Learning Quarter, a new campus area being developed in the centre of the town.
Built using piled foundations and a composite frame, the facility’s design features a pre-cast concrete ground floor and a steel frame structure for the remaining two storeys, with metal deck and in-situ concrete floors.
Dudley Sixth’s external finishes include brickwork, copper cladding and curtain walling.
The contract also involves minor refurbishment and extension works to Priory Villa, an existing Victorian building on-site, to enhance accessibility.
ISG will also carry out extensive external works, including the creation of a new plaza and lawned area with associated paths and paving.
Construction is set to begin before the end of 2011 and Dudley Sixth is scheduled to open for the new academic year in September 2012.
