Encore Wire has secured LEED Platinum certification from the US Green Building Council for its research and development centre in Collin County, Texas, US.

Designed by Page Southerland Page, the 13,000ft2 building has been given LEED certification for efficient energy use, lighting, water and material use as well as other sustainable strategies.

The green design and construction features include the use of high-efficiency, low-wattage exterior lighting, ultra efficient fluorescent interior lighting with photo cells, roof-mounted solar panels to minimise grid-supplied electric power and an indoor air quality control programme.

The building has a parking lot designed to optimise space with preferred parking for fuel-efficient vehicles and carpools, using high albedo concrete to decrease the heat island effect.
