Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council in the UK has selected housing construction and maintenance services provider, Lovell, for a £45m redevelopment of the High View neighbourhood centre in Hatfield, Hertfordshire.

The centre was originally built in the 1950s and is made up of a shopping precinct, as well as other community facilities.

Work will now start on a planning application that details proposals for the phased redevelopment.

The scheme will see the construction of 150 new homes, ranging from one-bedroom flats to three-bedroom houses.

It will also include a shopping parade with 1,980m² of retail space and is expected to improve access to the Jim McDonald Centre.

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council corporate property executive member Roger Trigg said: “The absolute focus for us throughout this process has been finding the right partner to revive High View, recognising its history and place at the heart of the community.

“The redeveloped homes and business spaces will breathe new life into the area and we also hope to improve its accessibility, both locally and to other parts of the town.

“We are starting to develop more detailed plans and look forward to hearing what everyone thinks about the proposals later next year.”

The company will also provide a £50,000 community grant to Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council for the local High View community.

A planning application for the development is expected to be submitted next year and the overall construction programme is slated for completion in 2022.
