Plans for the suburban property also include a proposal for developing spaces for retail and housing, along with a small stadium for youth football games.

The team had announced signing the purchase agreement for the 185-acre plot in Eagan, Minnesota in August this year.

Design for the 194-acre facility, which is located east of Dodd Road and south of Interstate 494, will be officially submitted to the city authorities for approval, Minnesota Vikings said.

"The training complex will feature three or four natural grass fields and a stadium with artificial turf."

The additional nine acres of adjacent land have been bought from Interstate Partners after the purchase of the original plot, according to Vikings executive vice-president Lester Bagley.

The redevelopment is expected to take place in at least four phases over the next ten to 15 years.

Phase one, which is expected to start early next year, includes building of the team's corporate headquarters covering 150,000ft² to 200,000ft², as well as an attached indoor football training facility.

The training complex will feature three or four natural grass fields and a stadium with artificial turf, although the seating capacity has not been determined yet.

Phase two will comprise a hotel development offering up to 150 rooms, a conference centre and retail, potentially with multi-family housing or offices built above it.

The third and fourth phases are likely to call for construction of more office spaces and multi-family housing.

While the team expects construction of the second and third phases to be initiated in 2019, the fourth development is expected to start in 2025.
