US-based sportswear brand NIKE has unveiled details of its plan to build a new regional headquarters in China.

The 587,227ft2 headquarters will be located in Shanghai’s Yangpu District as part of The Springs, a new mixed-use development being implemented by New York-based developer Tishman Speyer.

Nike VP & GM Greater China Craig Cheek said: "This new campus headquarters will allow us to elevate and expand on our facilities and capabilities while bringing all of our Shanghai-based employees together from our portfolio of Nike, Inc. brands into one central campus."

Nike has signed a long-term lease agreement with Tishman Speyer. As per the agreement, Tishman Speyer will build Nike’s office in a multi-building campus including three office buildings and a five-storey, multi-purpose conference centre. The campus will feature a soccer pitch, indoor basketball court, work-out facility, a food and beverage facility and a conference centre to host events and product launches.

Nike expects to move into the new campus in the first quarter of 2014.

The Springs development is centrally located between the Hong Qiao and Pu Dong airports and is being constructed along a major transit hub, connecting it to a subway interchange and 32 bus lines that will facilitate high-speed transit to the greater Shanghai metropolitan region. Located on a former airfield facility, the mixed-use project is also adjacent to a 33-acre ecological park reserve in Shanghai.

All of The Springs’s commercial components have been designed by a team of international architects and environmental consultants to achieve LEED Gold certification. After completion, The Springs will be a green community of 9.7m square feet located around eight miles from Shanghai’s Central Business District. It will feature 900 units of residential housing and 8m square feet of class-A office park, class-A commercial office space, SOHO live-work space, serviced apartments, hotel, retail business and cultural amenity space.

Tishman Speyer started construction on the mixed-use development in late June 2011 and the first phase of the residential units will be completed in October 2012. It will be Nike’s third corporate campus, following its World Headquarters near Beaverton in the US and one in Hilversum, the Netherlands.
