The University of Arkansas has broken ground on a $32.8m project to renovate and expand Vol Walker Hall, home to the Fay Jones School of Architecture, on its campus in Fayetteville, Arkansas, US.

The project, partly funded by the Donald W Reynolds Foundation, will add a 34,320ft2 design centre to the building, which will be named after the foundation’s president Steve Anderson.

The Steven L Anderson Design Centre will enable the school to house the architecture and landscape architecture departments under one roof, along with the interior design programme.

The extension will cost $13m, while the renovation of Vol Walker Hall is estimated to cost $19.8m.

The addition is expected to be complete in time for the 2013-14 academic year.
