V&A Waterfront has broken ground on a $64.88m project to build a six-storey office building named No 1 Silo in Cape Town, South Africa.

The new building will be part of a R1bn ($129.76m) development that will see the extensive refurbishment of Cape Town’s entire Clock Tower precinct over the next four to five years.

The sustainable features of No 1 Silo include a fully glazed double-skin façade to maximise views of Table Mountain and the ocean, as well as ensuring optimal use of natural light.

Work on the building is scheduled to complete in mid 2013.
