Willmott Dixon has secured a contract from Redcar and Cleveland Council, through the Scape framework, to develop a £33m leisure, business support and community facility in Redcar, UK.
The project is part of the Redcar regeneration plan, under which Willmott Dixon will work with S&P Architects on the leisure side of the scheme while +3 architects will work on the civic and business facilities.
Willmott Dixon will carry out the first of a two-stage contract to build a six-lane, 25m swimming pool, an additional training and leisure pool, dance hall and performance space, and community facilities including a debating chamber and relocated registrars office.
Along with the leisure and civic facilities, a business centre will be built offering business space to attract entrepreneurs and start-up companies to develop new ideas.
The company will also build a 80ft vertical pier on the seafront, which is intended to be a major tourist landmark.
The company is expected to commence construction in early 2012 and the work is scheduled for completion in late 2013.
