NP International (NPI) has awarded a contract to Balfour Beatty for the development of 1.3 million ft2 mixed-use Gables Station in Coral Gables, Florida, US.

The project will see the construction of three towers, featuring 120,000ft² of retail space; 500 residential units, which will include 66 furnished hotel units; and a 1,000-car parking garage.

The site of the Gables Station project is located on US Highway 1 and next to the Miami Metrorail, providing access to the Miami International Airport, Brickell, downtown Miami, Coconut Grove, and Dadeland.

This project will be connected to the Underline Park, which is a ten-mile linear park and urban trail intended to transform the land below the Metrorail project, as well as downtown Coral Gables via the city’s free trolley system.

“NPI develops meaningful projects in close proximity to public transportation systems in urban locations that maximise value for their communities.”

Balfour Beatty Florida buildings operations president Scott Skidelsky said: “NPI develops meaningful projects in close proximity to public transportation systems in urban locations that maximise value for their communities.

“We’ve had the privilege of being NPI’s construction partner on world-class projects in the past and we’re honoured for the opportunity to once again be their partner in delivering a project as unique as Gables Station.”

Two of the three residential buildings will offer a total of 450 units. One of the two buildings will face Underline Park on the ground level and feature 19,000ft² of retail while the other building will include 18,000ft² of retail space.

Each residential building will have five floors of parking, and u-shaped pool decks that will overlook US-1.

The third building of the Gable Station will offer 68,000ft² of retail space and be home to limited service, extended-stay lodging.

Intended for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2020,  Balfour Beatty plans to use the latest technologies and lean construction methods in this project.

The Gables Station project was designed by architect Jorge Hernandez in partnership with Gensler.
