Plans approved for Sheffield Hallam University Phase I city campus project

BAM will start the construction work of the new buildings in early 2022, with plans for completion in the second half of 2023.

Sheffield City Council has approved plans to develop the first phase of the Sheffield Hallam University city campus project in England.

Phase I of the Sheffield Hallam campus plans involves the construction of three new buildings around a public University Green, on the site of Science Park, which was recently demolished.

The buildings for teaching and learning will adjoin the car park.

These will also be adjacent to Howard Street that leads up from Sheffield Train Station.

BAM Construction will commence construction work on the project in early 2022, with plans for completion in the second half of 2023.

The campus plans have been developed together with key partners as part of the collaborative ‘Hallam Alliance’.

The alliance members include Sheffield Hallam University, BDP Arup for design, BAM for construction and CBRE for facilities management.

A new ‘university green’ public space is also planned at the campus that will provide sitting and relaxation spaces for up to 150 people.

The buildings will see the use of sustainable energy solutions such as heat pumps, solar energy and has provisions to support and promote sustainable travel.

Sheffield Hallam University deputy vice-chancellor Richard Calvert said: “This development will play a major part in delivering on our ambitions as a university, including our contribution to the city and region as set out in our recently launched Civic University Agreement.

“These new facilities are designed to deliver significant benefits for our students and to make Sheffield Hallam an even more attractive place to study and work whilst also enhancing a key gateway to Sheffield city centre.”
