Sweden-based Skanska has been awarded an Skr1.2bn ($125.32m) contract to construct a new building for the University of Gothenburg’s science faculty department.

The contract was signed by Skanska with state-owned real estate company Akedemiska Hus.

According to the contract, Skanska will build two seven-storey buildings covering a total area of 32,000m². It will also construct an intermediate section to accommodate the atrium and meeting rooms.

The premises will feature a flexible design and be equipped with advanced lab environments, classrooms and offices.

The scope of the project will also involve the reconstruction of a 2,000m² connecting building.

The Faculty of Science department includes 3,000 students and between 500 and 600 employees.

The new building will be an important part of the development regime on the Medicinareberget campus.

Work under the contract is planned to start immediately. Construction is slated to complete in the second quarter of 2023.

In a separate development, the City of Beaverton has selected Skanska for the Patricia Reser Center for the Arts (PRCA) project in Beaverton, Oregon, US.

Under the $59m contract, the company will build a new multidisciplinary arts centre and Creekside Garage.

The centre will feature a theatre with seating space for 550 people, a large lobby for receptions and events, classrooms, meeting and conference space, an art gallery, and a café.

Creekside Garage will be spread across a 14,400m² area and will include 353 parking stalls and ground-level retail space.

Construction on this project has already started this month with completion planned in July 2021.
