The Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC) has revealed the design for Marine Life Institute in Saudia Arabia, which is claimed to become the world’s completely immersive experiential marine life centre.

Marine Life Institute has been designed by architectural design firm Foster + Partners.

It will serve as a research centre and a tourist destination.

The Red Sea Development Company CEO John Pagano said: “We wanted to design a first-of-its-kind facility that extends far beyond any existing marine life attraction. With ten zones that provide everything from augmented reality experiences to night diving and spaces for the scientific community to effectively progress their environmental projects, the Marine Life Institute is undeniably unique.

“Not only will it drive global green and blue innovations, but it will also help put Saudi Arabia on the map for travellers seeking trips that enrich their lives.”

Once operational, the institute, which will be set within the AMAALA destination on the west coast of Saudi Arabia and located on the waterfront of Triple Bay, is expected to host up to 650 people at any one time.

Besides being able to walk underwater and snorkel with species, guests will be able to take part in lab tours and dive into the depths of the sea in a submarine.

Comprising three levels, the design of the 10,340m² institute is inspired by the Red Sea’s coral formations.

Its glass-reinforced concrete will be moulded in a way to look like reef patterns against the skyline.

The exhibition displays will also be integrated into the infrastructure.

It will feature suspended semi-spherical tanks with local marine wildlife.

Over 40% of the site will be covered by native plants and feature a mechanism to collect runoff water to avoid erosion and pollution while cutting down water use.

Furthermore, it will be equipped with a lighting mechanism that is intended to prevent light pollution and safeguard the nocturnal environment.

The first phase of AMAALA Triple Bay is underway. It is expected to welcome the first guests in 2024.

AMAALA Triple Bay will feature eight resorts with more than 1,200 hotel keys.

Following completion, it will have over 3,000 hotel rooms across 25 hotels and around 900 residential villas, apartments and estate homes, besides fine dining, wellness and recreational facilities and retail outlets.

Meanwhile, site preparation works have commenced with bulk earthworks completed. TRSDC will now begin piling and shoring before excavating 12m below the surface water level for the Grand Reveal aquarium of the Marine Life Institute.
