The University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego) in the US has started construction on the open-air Pepper Canyon Amphitheater project.
The amphitheatre, which is located in the heart of the Pepper Canyon neighbourhood, has seating capacity for 2,850 patrons and is scheduled to open in 2022.

It forms the final piece of a range of significant improvements to the area, including landscaping of open spaces, east façade improvements for three existing Visual Arts Buildings, a Stuart Collection art installation and the construction of Rupertus Walk.
Rupertus Walk will link the university to a stop on the UC San Diego Blue Line Trolley extension.
The 74,000ft² collaborative Design and Innovation Building adjacent to the trolley is set to open next year.
It will serve as a creative hub for Jacobs School of Engineering, Visual Arts, Cognitive Science, the Office of Innovation and Commercialization, campus departments and the Alumni Association.

Once the Blue Line Trolley extension opens, the campus will be connected to many areas of the county.
Furthermore, the extension will allow for travel to the Mexican border within an hour and supports ties with educational institutions in Mexico.
Designed to enrich the cultural life of the campus and community, the Stuart Collection will bring its 22nd installation to the Pepper Canyon area.
The artwork of MacArthur fellow Ann Hamilton will be experienced by walking along a wide path within Rupertus Walk, which will connect the trolley stop to Ridge Walk.
