Veidekke wins contract to build new terminal building in Trondheim

The new eight-storey terminal will have a total floor area of 17,500².

Real estate company Bane NOR Eiendom has appointed construction company Veidekke to build a new terminal building and office block at Trondheim Central Station in Trondheim, Norway.

The design and build contract has a total value of $82.41m (NOK722m), excluding VAT.

Across eight storeys, the new Trondheim Central Station will have a total floor area of 17,500m².

The terminal building will have an area of 4,500m² while 13,000m² has been allocated for office space, which will offer views of the city and fjord.

Veidekke noted that the construction work will take place without any interruption to train services.

The building parts will be constructed on a modular basis to enable rapid assembly at the project site.

The terminal building, which will be constructed across the tracks, will serve as a vantage point, and offer connection between the city centre and the port.

The company stated that the buildings will be certified as per the BREEAM-NOR Excellent environmental standard.

Veidekke Bygg Trøndelag regional director Torgeir Wiig said: “Together with the client, consultants, and subcontractors, we have come through a very good development phase that will guarantee a superb building and construction process.

“We are now looking forward to getting to work on the detailed design after the summer holidays and starting construction in 2023.”

Construction work on the project is scheduled to commence in January 2023, with completion planned by November 2025.

In 2020, Veidekke was awarded a contract by the Vestfold and Telemark county municipality to build and renovate the Sandefjord Upper Secondary School, in Norway.
