Willmott Dixon to deliver two housing schemes in the UK

The two housing schemes to be built by Willmott Dixon form part of the Kensington & Chelsea Council’s New Homes Delivery Programme.

Kensington & Chelsea Council in the UK has selected construction firm Willmott Dixon to deliver two housing schemes, which together worth approximately $36.7m (£26m).

Under the largest contract, valued at $24.1m (£17.1m), Willmott Dixon will build a complex of 37 homes above ground floor commercial accommodation at Kensal Road.

The five-storey building is planned to be completed in the autumn of 2022.

Willmott Dixon said that the building would benefit from shared garden space and a podium deck with a large, landscaped terrace.

The other contract involves the delivery of 20 additional homes at Hewer Street, with an investment of $12m (£8.5m). It is slated for completion in winter 2022/23.

Kensington & Chelsea Council deputy leader Kim Taylor-Smith said: “Seeing the first spades in the ground at these sites is an exciting moment in our mission to provide much-needed good-quality homes across our borough, including at least 300 at social rent.

“There’s no single, simple solution to London’s housing crisis and that’s why we have committed to reduce the number of empty homes, push developers to provide more social housing and develop a policy to provide affordable housing for key workers.”

These schemes are part of the council’s ambitious New Homes Delivery Programme, which will see the construction of 600 new homes including a minimum of 300 social rent homes.

Willmott Dixon London & South region managing director Roger Forsdyke said: “We are delighted to be working with Kensington & Chelsea Council on their bold New Homes Delivery Programme, creating much-needed homes for local residents and providing a minimum of the half for social rent.”

Willmott Dixon said it is also working to deliver a £46m mixed-use development at 300 Harrow Road for Westminster as well as new homes in Barking for urban regeneration firm Be-First.
