Willmott Dixon Interiors has secured a contract to deliver a £39m refurbishment at London South Bank University’s (LSBU) London Road Building in the UK.

Willmott Dixon will transform the building into a dedicated learning zone, forming a key part of the university’s redevelopment project at its campus at Elephant and Castle.

It extends Willmott Dixon’s presence in the universities sector with more than £250m of work being delivered or completed.

Upon completion, the new learning zone will create new and different ways of engaging students.

The refurbishment work will provide a new library and learning resource facility, as well as improved Academy of Sports facilities.

LSBU Innovation deputy vice-chancellor and chief business officer professor Paul Ivey said: “The Wilkinson Eyre Architects design for London South Bank University’s ‘Learning Hub’ ensures our facilities, learning spaces, and technology remains fit for the future.

“I am delighted to welcome Willmott Dixon Interiors as our construction partners in this important venture. All three organisations are working towards creating a campus that has the capacity and facilities needed to serve students, staff and the wider community.”

For the project, the company will use its experience of working within occupied space as the LSBU project lies within a live campus environment.

Willmott Dixon Interiors managing director Graham Shaw said: “We are really pleased to be working with LSBU to help it transform the London Road Building and realise its modern campus vision.”

Willmott Dixon recently renovated the Grade II-listed Dagenham Civic Centre to become Coventry University’s new London Campus.

In January 2018, the company secured a £13.4m contract from the University of Kent to build the new School of Economics building.
