The UK’s Wiltshire Council has chosen Willmott Dixon as its construction partner to develop a £33m school that offers places for up to 400 for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
The investment will bring Larkrise, St Nicholas and Rowdeford schools together as one maintained school over three sites. They will amalgamate from 1 September this year.

Procured through the SCF framework, Willmott Dixon will be responsible for overseing work to construct a school on the Rowdeford location.
This school will provide up to 400 places for SEND pupils aged from early years to post-16.
Work is slated to commence in mid-2021 and finish by September 2023. Before that, Willmott Dixon will work with Wiltshire Council to prepare the project to start on the location.
These new facilities will run as a ‘school within a school’ and will see a community of small teaching clusters that will offer a range of specialist teaching spaces, therapeutic support, and quiet dining spaces.

By GlobalDataEach cluster will be designed in a way to provide space to move around whilst leveraging natural daylighting and ventilation to create an airy feel.
To be designed as a standalone school provision for early years, primary, secondary and post-16, the clusters will feature a hydrotherapy pool and outdoor learning provision.
Furthermore, the new facilities both internally and externally will be completely accessible for all pupils at the school.
Cabinet member for Children, Education and Skills Pauline Church said: “This is a major step forward in ensuring we have sufficient places for all our SEND children in the north of Wiltshire. The involvement of children from all three sites and the wider school community was included in the contract as their views are important to us.
“The work will create a number of new classrooms, areas and facilities which will really complement learning. We are looking forward to continuing to work closely with the school community across all three sites and involving the children in the design as we move forward.”
In January this year, Willmott Dixon secured a $13m (£10m) contract from Harrogate Borough Council for the expansion of an existing leisure centre in Ripon, UK.
