Ballarat City Council has unveiled plans for an A$80m (US$79m) new sports and entertainment centre in Ballarat, Australia.

Councillors will now consider the plan, which has two options outlined, and will involve a major overhaul of Eureka Stadium and the Ballarat Showgrounds.

The phased redevelopment of the football stadium and show grounds will involve construction of a 5,000-seat grandstand, with a new 15,000-seat grandstand planned for the future.

It will also involve a sports house including a rehabilitation centre, gymnasium, health services and indoor exhibition space.

The project go-ahead is dependent on state or federal government funding approval, according to thecourier.com.au.
