City officials broke ground on a new $10m conference centre in Gastonia, North Carolina, US, on 26 October.
The 29,000ft², two-storey Gastonia Conference Center will feature a three-level parking deck with 160 spaces.
The centre is expected to achieve certification from the US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) programme.
The red stone building will feature a lobby and gallery, meeting spaces, a grand ballroom and five breakout rooms.
The project, financed by federal funds, is expected to open in 2011, according to charlotteobserver.com.
