The $244m project will involve restoration of the entire building and improvements to the overall visitor experience at the facility, which was built in 1870.

The practice beat Spain-based CosmoCaixa and US-based Ralph Appelbaum Associates and the US-Canadian Lord Cultural Resources to win the design competition.

The project is expected to be complete by 2016, according to telegraph.co.uk.
