International architecture practice Populous has unveiled design plans to transform Horse Guards Parade in London, England.
The practice worked alongside Atkins to create the plan, which aims to convert the area into a temporary beach volleyball arena for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.
Upon completion, the arena will feature an outdoor seating area for 15,000 people and a theatre-in-the-round.
The temporary arena will be built within six weeks, according to architectsjournal.co.uk.
Populous principle Jeff Keas said the temporary structure will be similar in size and scale to Wimbledon’s Centre Court in London.
