The state government of Victoria in Australia has said it will support the planned expansion of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC).

The new 12,000m² event space will be integrated with the existing 30,000m² Melbourne Exhibition Centre and the 5,550-seat Melbourne Convention Centre.

The expansion will employ sustainable design elements such as solar panels, water harvesting and the provision of natural light.

The development will also feature a multi-storey car park.

Work on the development will commence in 2012 and will be complete in 2014.
