Foster + Partners has completed its first winery, the Faustino Winery, in Madrid, Spain.
The 12,500m² shingled facility features a trefoil design expressing the three main stages of wine production.
One wing is partly embedded into the ground, while the fermentation wing is exposed.
The building features a road on the roof, which delivers grapes into the hopper directly.
The building’s roof canopy provides shade while photovoltaic cells on the concrete structure help to control interior temperatures and aid in reducing building energy use.
The winery features a raised public gallery extending into the glazed areas into each wing, and a reception and administration area with terraced pools.
