Crawford Architects has been selected to design the new hockey arena for Pennsylvania State University in the US.

The practice will work in collaboration with Bohlin Cywinski Jackson to design the 18,581m² multipurpose ice arena including two sheets of ice.

The 5,600-seat hockey arena will be built into the hill, which will provide sunlight in lobby areas without affecting the ice.

The architects will employ new energy-efficient ways to create ice and install modern technologies including solar panels.

The initial proposal said the arena will have stadium seating, with a drop-down scoreboard.
