Work has begun at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in Pennsylvania, US, to accommodate the planned expansion of the facility.

The 7,432m² expansion, to be built underground, has been designed by Frank Gehry Architects.

Work is expected to be complete in three phases under a ten-year master plan.

The expansion will not change the museum’s appearance, according to the Associated Press.
