The $250m renovation of the Husky Stadium at the University of Washington in the US has been approved by the University board of regents.

The university's department of intercollegiate athletics will fund the project.

The lower bowl and southside stands will be reconstructed, while the quarter-mile running track will be removed and the playing field will be lowered 4ft for better sightlines.

The project is expected to be complete by 2013, according to Puget Sound Business Journal.
