The Australian Government has pledged A$45m (US$44m) towards the development of an arts and cultural precinct in Geelong in the state of Victoria.

The Geelong Performing Arts Centre (GPAC) will receive A$30m (US$29m) while the Geelong Library and Heritage Centre will receive A$15m (US$14.6m) to upgrade their facilities.

The GPAC redevelopment will include rebuilding GPAC's Ryrie Street end, upgrading the four dance studios and dressing rooms, and transforming the church performance site into a stand-alone music-cabaret venue.

Ryrie Street will also be connected to the centre of the arts precinct and a new foyer and service area for the Playhouse Theatre will also be built, according to geelongadvertiser.
