Sweden-based architectural firm Wingårdhs Arkitekter is to design an auditorium for the Royal Karolinska Institute in Solna, Sweden.

The auditorium will be housed in a triangular-shaped, seven-storey building with a seating capacity for 1,000 people, a restaurant, a café and office premises.

p>Work on the building, estimated to cost SEK270m ($38.57m), is scheduled to begin in February 2011 and be completed in April 2013.

The building will have a façade anchored in a glulam frame, with one of its corners leaning sharply over Solnavagen.

The design also includes large glass surfaces that are intended to create transparency and invite openness.

Akademiska Hus has commissioned NCC Construction Sweden to build the auditorium on behalf of the Royal Karolinska Institute.
