The exterior design of a new $49.7m downtown library in Iowa, US, has been unveiled.
The building’s architect, OPN Architects, and project manager Ryan Companies US make up the design team along with the library director and board members.
Spanning 8,733m&178;, the library will feature an expanded children’s area, parking, a cafe and a large skylight with a skywalk connecting the ramp to the library.
The two-storey structure will feature a 200-seat auditorium and a green roof which will help prevent rainwater runoff.
Other sustainable elements will be incorporated, such as a geothermal system, to earn the LEED Gold standard.
The building is expected to open by July 2013, according to kcrg.com.
