The city of Sugar Land in Texas, US, has selected a joint venture of Linbeck Group and Barton Malow as the preferred design build contractor for the construction of a $30m minor league baseball stadium.

Houston-based Linbeck and Michigan-based Barton Malow will collaborate on the StarTex Power Field stadium, which will be the future home of the Sugar Land Skeeters minor league baseball team.

About 14 companies submitted proposals for the design build contract with Sugar Land selecting five finalists in September 2010.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2011, with the ballpark scheduled to be ready by April 2012, according to FortBendNow.com.

The stadium is being built from sales-tax revenues dedicated for economic development purposes with an additional $10m contributed by Lancaster-based Opening Day Partners.
