Houston Dynamo has broken ground on its new soccer stadium in Texas, US.

Designed by Populous, the 22,000-seat stadium features a large concession lounge, 33 suites along the single seating bowl, a mezzanine club level with an open-air patio and a 70ft-deep roof canopy.

The new stadium features a tessellated patterned skin highlighted in orange polycarbonate at three-storey-high entries and throughout the new spectator areas.

Ramps and terraces have been elevated roughly 6ft above the sidewalk, supplemented by local materials and shaded planting.

The stadium is set to open in 2012.
