$28m US Transit Centre to be Unveiled in May

A new $28.6m capital area transit operations centre will be unveiled in May 2011 in East Raleigh, US. The centre will feature a garage and maintenance centre for 125 buses with room to accommodate up to 200 more in the future. Expected to receive LEED Platinum certificatio

A new $28.6m capital area transit operations centre will be unveiled in May 2011 in East Raleigh, US.

The centre will feature a garage and maintenance centre for 125 buses with room to accommodate up to 200 more in the future.

Expected to receive LEED Platinum certification, the sustainable elements of the centre include geothermal heating with radiant floor heat to reduce heat loss, ponds and cisterns to trap stormwater pollution, rainwater storage for landscaping irrigation and automatic motion sensors.

The centre was built with the help of a $11.6m grant that was part of $22.3m in federal money used for the project, reports newsobserver.com.
