The contract was signed with St Albans City and the District Council and the three-phase project has been designed by S&P Architects.

The first phase includes construction of a new car park, and installation of new CCTV and lighting, while the second phase will include the creation of a 25m, eight-lane swimming pool, training pool and wet side changing facilities.

The centre will also include a health spa, a cafe, a climbing wall, a fitness suite, dry change areas, a four-court sports hall and dance studios.

The third phase will involve the demolition of the existing leisure centre and the creation of further parking space.

Work is slated to begin this month, with completion scheduled for November 2012.
