Global design firm Foster + Partners has secured a contract to design the master plan for the West Kowloon Cultural District in Hong Kong, China.
The 400,000m² area will become a cultural centre for music, performing and visual arts.
The harbour-front site will also contain public spaces and spaces for Chinese culture, living, working, galleries and studios.
Foster + Partners secured the contract after winning an international competition, followed by a year-long public consultation.
A total of 109 design firms were considered, of which 12 were invited to compete while three of these were shortlisted to produce detailed designs.
Plans call for the cultural buildings to be placed around a 230,000m² of public park.
