The National Center for Civil and Human Rights will begin construction of its new facility in Atlanta, Georgia, US, in late 2011.
The facility has been designed by Freelon Group and HOK of Atlanta in coordination with exhibit designer Gallagher and Associates and project manager Cousins Properties.
The centre will be housed in a terracotta-clad building surrounding an exterior courtyard which serves as an amphitheatre and exhibit space.
The $85m facility is expected to be completed in 24 months with an opening date scheduled for 2013.
The National Center for Civil and Human Rights has already raised $73m for the construction of the new facility.
